Child programme in the D.R. Congo

WCH has been working in the DRC since 2003 with its country office based in Bukavu, South Kivu. WCH has two field bases in, Kalehe and Fizi territories, with interventions in three key thematic areas of child protection, psychosocial support, and education being carried out in 26 communities in Walungu, Bukavu, , Kalehe and Fizi territories of South Kivu province. The interventions are carried out through a participatory community-based approach that seeks to strengthen existing systems and structures within the communities to (re)create a stable, safe, and supportive environment for children.

The DRC programme will support options for cooperation and exchange with War Child offices in the Great Lakes Region (Uganda, Burundi). War Child is committed to add value to the development of a sustainable programme which suits the local needs and works closely with DRC local organizations and relevant government institutions.

Your challenge
• Responsible for the realisation of War Child’s country programme in the D.R. Congo. This includes and is not limited to developing and updating the country strategy, planning and reporting (annually and quarterly), monitoring & evaluation and effectively supervising the country team;
• Capacity building of staff and local partners is part of your challenge;
• Develop and maintain donor relations and you will represent War Child in meetings and coordination platforms;
• Final responsibility for Security Management. Ensure to be well informed on security developments at all times;
• Final responsibility for finance, office and logistics management (to a large extend delegated to the Operation Support Manager);
• You authorize investments, manage supplies and you maintain efficient financial control (of cash flows, local payment, etc.) accountability standards, procedures and records;
• You prepare budgets and budget control and you take action by imminent deficiencies or surplus.

• Experienced and inspiring leader;
• At least 10 years relevant experience in an international/ humanitarian context of which a minimum of 5 years in a senior management position (e.g. as Representative or Country director);
• Proven experience in the region is a must;
• Proven experience in growing the operations and funding of an organization;
• Experience in working with local partners and knowledge of psychosocial, protection and education programmes for children affected by conflict;
• Experience in financial management (including management of multiple grants);
• Excellent communication skills in English and French;
• Diplomatic with strong problem solving and social skills:
• Result oriented and stress-resilient, able to cope with deadlines and complex problems:
• Team player and able to work independently.
• Relevant academic background e.g. social sciences, international relations, Business Administration.

Job Location: Bukavu, DRC.
Contract: 1 year contract with the intention to prolong

DRC is a non-family duty station. The expatriate is allowed to bring a partner under the condition that he/she is employed or will be employed by a humanitarian organization. The expatriate is not allowed to bring children.
